The Eurocup-3 championship will be visiting Motorland Aragón for the second round of the 2023 season. Off the back of a mixed weekend at Spa Francorchamps, Gilkes will be looking to ignite his potential title challenge after the promising pace shown in round one.
“The pace shown at Spa throughout the weekend was strong, it was only in race 2 where we really struggled. Throughout testing we were consistently top 5” says Gilkes on round 1. “We’ve gone away, analyzed what happened, and are ready to take what we’ve learned from my side and about setup into this weekend. With a new car it’s always about learning, and we’ve done just that – now we just need to use it to our advantage.”
For many of the drivers on the grid including Nick, Motorland Aragón will be a brand new circuit to get to grips with, something which could prove difficult on top of continuing to learn the characteristics of the new Eurocup-3 car. But Gilkes has made sure to be well prepared to face this new challenge, and set his expectations for the weekend:
“I’ve of course done plenty of prep work on the sim to familiarize myself with the layout of the Aragón. It’s all about building upon the practice sessions, and finding the small margins here and there, but ultimately it just takes a couple of extra laps to find the limit.”
“A few podiums would be pretty satisfying, anything more we’ll be over the moon with. As ever with motorsport, you can never predict anything – so we’ll only really have an idea as to where we are as we go through practice and head into qualifying.”
